Built by Quest Yachts in New Farm Brisbane, approx 1983 this pocket cruiser is designed to explore Moreton Bay, also very well suited to coastal cruising. Solidly built with a hull of hand layed GRP and integral keel, these yachts are tough. This particular 8 meter is a mark II with large lazerett and increased head room in V berth also adding small windows to the latter.
The mast head rig and sea kindly hull provide for excellent sailing characteristics. Mast and boom are aluminum, stainless steel rigging is oversize. A selection of four Dacron head sails are included, main sail is double slab reef-able of tri-radial construction off shore rated. An as new MPS (multi purpose sail) is deployed via sock providing ease of handling and superb off wind sailing performance. All halyards are lead to cockpit with cabin top winches and jammers located under the protection of spray dodger.
Below deck has good head room and ample storage. Settee converts to large single berth, there are also two quarter berths. Forward of the main saloon is an enclosed electric head & hand basin with hanging space opposite. The internal accommodation space is dry and airy with three opening hatches and fan.
Navigation via two GPS units one a touch screen color display with gold navtronics charts covering Australian waters. Color fish finder with back up sounder. Speed log with water temp. Navigation lights are LED as is the mast head anchor light. VHF & FM/AM radios can be found aboard, the FM/AM has AUX input and can also monitor VHF transmissions, Both have separate deck mounted aerials. Tiller pilot is Raymarine ST1000. Powering all of these electronic marvels are two sea master 85Ah batteries charged via alternator and solar panel. Solar panel has smart charge controller.
Yanmar 2gm 13hp diesel motor can be found under the companionway stairs. This motor is in excellent condition, over hauled in October 2015. Serviced every 6 months. Fuel tank drained annually. The propeller is fixed three blade of bronze on 1” SS shaft cruise speed of 5knots.
A near new inflatable 2.1m dingy is included as are life jackets and horse shoe life ring, V-sheet and flares.
Ground tackle sees 12m of new 8mm short link spliced into 50m of three strand polyester 10mm (also new) 2x CQR anchors. Hauled up via Muir manual anchor winch. Chain and rode are stored in self draining locker.
This small boat has many big boat features yet remains manageable in confined spaces and is a joy to sail.
