Iplex nestled bakelite containers & Marquis spice containers in LOTA, Queensland for sale

One of the first plastics made from synthetic components, Bakelite was used for kitchenware for its heat-resistant properties. The "retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. These larger vintage nestled bakelite plastic canisters were made in Australia by Iplex (stamped on the bottom), circa 1940s. Large one says 'Flour', medium ones say 'Rice' and 'Sugar', small one says 'Coffee' (the label is a little worn on this one). The smaller spice canisters are a set of five, with Marquis brand stamped on the base. The labels say 'Cloves', 'Cinnamon', 'Allspice', 'Nutmeg' and a blank one. There are four tiny scoops (one looks out of shape). All come with lids and are remarkably clean considering their age. No cracks or damage. Both brands are made in Australia.
